Application of Voltage Amplifiers in Experimental Research on Magnetostrictive Patch Transducers
Experiment Name: Experimental Study on Magnetostrictive Patch Transducers
Experimental Principle:
Using an aluminum plate as the test object, a signal generator produces a modulated excitation signal, which is amplified and transmitted to MPT, GMPT, and MDPT transducers to excite Lamb waves in the aluminum plate. The receiving transducer captures the signals and transmits them to an oscilloscope and PC. The wave velocity is calculated using the time-of-flight method and compared with theoretical values to verify transducer feasibility. Additionally, the lift-off distance of the MPT and the operating frequencies of the GMPT and MDPT are adjusted to identify optimal parameters. The omnidirectionality of the MDPT is verified, and finally, the signal energy is compared.

Experimental Procedure:
Physical prototypes of MPT, GMPT, and MDPT were fabricated, and an experimental platform was established, comprising a signal generator, a high-voltage amplifier, and an oscilloscope, with a 1 mm thick aluminum plate as the test object. Subsequent experiments were conducted separately:
The MPT was tested in a pitch-catch configuration with a PZT transducer to validate Lamb wave excitation and reception. Using a lift-off adjustment device, the optimal lift-off distance was determined to be 8 mm.
The GMPT was tested in a pitch-catch configuration to verify Lamb wave excitation and reception, with the optimal operating frequency identified as 160 kHz.
The MDPT underwent frequency sweeping to determine the optimal operating frequency of 65.6 kHz, and its Lamb wave excitation capability and omnidirectionality were verified.
Finally, the received signals were processed through filtering and resampling, and the signal energy was compared.
Application Fields:
Underwater acoustics, industrial ultrasonic applications, nondestructive testing and structural health monitoring, sensing technologies.
