Principle of experiment

EDM is to apply a high-frequency pulse voltage between the tool electrode and the workpiece electrode to electrically break down the working fluid medium at the minimum relative gap or the minimum dielectric strength between the tool electrode and the workpiece electrode surface, so as to make the tool break down. A pulsed spark discharge is continuously generated between the electrode and the workpiece electrode. The temperature of plasma channel formed by spark discharge is up to 5000-7000K, which is enough to melt and vaporize any metal material and remove it. Therefore, each discharge will form a very small discharge pit on the tool electrode and workpiece electrode.

Experimental process

ATA-61520 power amplifier is used to build the EDM system, as shown in Figure 1. The EDM power supply system is shown in Figure 2. The function generator generates high frequency pulse signal, and the ATA-61520 power amplifier amplifies the high frequency signal to produce high power high frequency pulse voltage necessary for EDM

Experiment results:

An experimental study of EDM was carried out on the high-frequency ultra-short pulse width power supply composed of ATA-61520 power amplifier. FIG. 3-4 shows the special-shaped holes processed on die steel. The curved holes were processed by using bent copper electrode, and the high-precision deep holes were processed by using columnar copper electrode.

Conclusion of experiment : 

ATA-61520 power amplifier can provide high frequency voltage under high power conditions, and has the characteristics of convenient use, high accuracy, high stability, high cost performance, and is very suitable for the processing field which needs high frequency power pulse width power supply. The advantages of the power supply in the electric machining are verified by experiments.
