Application of Aigtek Power Amplifiers in Underwater Acoustic Communication and Sonar System Research

The field of underwater acoustics encompasses marine science, underwater exploration, underwater acoustic communication, and ecological research, among others. Power amplifiers play a crucial role in underwater acoustic testing, with applications spanning multiple aspects.

Aigtek's ATA-L series of underwater acoustic power amplifiers are widely used in the development of the underwater acoustic and marine fields, including marine geological surveying, underwater marine communication, and the construction of sonar systems. The ATA-L series underwater acoustic power amplifiers offer a maximum output power of 6500 VA, a maximum output voltage of 1200 Vrms, and can drive 0~100% resistive or non-resistive loads.

Case 1: Efficient Verification of Nonlocal Underwater Acoustic Metasurfaces

Experimental System Diagram

Figure: Experimental System Diagram

Experimental Process: A Gaussian-modulated plane wave was generated using a transducer. As the signal produced by the transducer was weak, a power amplifier was used to amplify the plane wave signal. Two hydrophones were used to measure the sound pressure distribution 1 cm from the water surface. One hydrophone was fixed, while the second scanned the measurement area point-by-point. The normalized values between the signals from the two hydrophones were recorded to obtain the measured anomalously refracted sound pressure field.

Case 2: Testing the Angle of Arrival Resolution of an Underwater Acoustic Signal Receiver

Figure: Experimental System Diagram

Experimental Process: The experimental system consisted of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter generated a sinusoidal pulse signal, which was amplified by a power amplifier and then applied to a CT75 transducer to emit the underwater acoustic signal. At the receiver end, a self-made acoustic-optic sensing device was used to receive and measure the acoustic signal, calculating the Angle of Arrival (AOA) information.

The specific applications of underwater acoustic power amplifiers in underwater acoustic research are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

  • Driving Sonar Systems:

    • High Power Output: Underwater acoustic power amplifiers, such as the ATA-L series, offer high power output up to 6500 VA, enabling them to stably drive various sonar systems, ensuring the strength and reliability of underwater communication signals.

  • Signal Amplification and Matching:

    • Excellent Amplitude-Frequency and Phase-Frequency Characteristics: Underwater acoustic power amplifiers possess excellent amplitude-frequency and phase-frequency characteristics, allowing them to amplify underwater communication signals while preserving the signal's phase and amplitude information, ensuring communication quality.

    • Impedance Matching Design: Users can perform impedance matching design according to specific needs to optimize signal transmission efficiency and reduce signal loss.

  • Supporting Diverse Simulation Testing:

    • Numerically Controlled Gain Adjustment: Underwater acoustic power amplifiers support numerically controlled gain adjustment, allowing flexible adaptation of the amplifier's gain according to different simulation testing requirements to meet various experimental and testing scenarios.

  • Ensuring Signal Transmission Quality:

    • Broadband Amplification Capability: The ATA-L series underwater acoustic power amplifiers feature broadband amplification capability, covering a wide frequency range to ensure the transmission quality of underwater communication signals across different frequencies.
