Application of the ATA-2021B High-Voltage Amplifier in the Performance Evaluation of GRUT

Author:Aigtek Number:0 Date:2025-10-20

Experiment Name: Performance Evaluation of GRUT

Test Purpose: Before using GRUT to inspect aluminum plates, it is crucial to determine the guided wave modes within the plate. Different modes have distinct wave velocities, response amplitudes, and dispersion characteristics. The rational selection of guided wave modes is fundamental for low-frequency ultrasonic guided wave monitoring of aluminum plate structures. Simulations have already been conducted to analyze the guided wave modes excited by GRUT under low-frequency conditions. In this section, experiments will be carried out to verify this part of the content.

Testing Equipment: ATA-2021B high-voltage amplifier, PZT, signal generator, oscilloscope, solenoid coil, etc.

Experimental Process:

Experimental Setup

Figure 1: Experimental Setup

The excitation signal generated by the signal generator is amplified by the high-voltage amplifier and drives the GRUT to excite ultrasonic guided waves in the aluminum plate through the solenoid coil. The induced voltage signal received by the PZT is collected using an oscilloscope. If the distance between the excitation end and the receiving end is too short, the different modes cannot be fully separated when they reach the receiving end. Therefore, a propagation distance of 1 meter is set for the experiment to verify the guided wave modes propagating in the aluminum plate under low-frequency working conditions of GRUT. A center frequency of 50 kHz is selected for the excitation signal. The signal collected from the d33 PZT is shown in Figure 2. The guided wave modes, in order of decreasing propagation velocity, are the S0 mode Lamb wave, the SH0 mode horizontally polarized shear wave, and the A0 mode Lamb wave. The wave velocities of these three modes match the calculated dispersion curve results, and the experimental results are in good agreement with the corresponding finite element prediction results.
