Application of the ATA-2082 High-Voltage Amplifier in Damage Detection of Circular Flexible IDT
Experiment Name: Preliminary Study on Damage Detection of a Single Circular Flexible IDT
Test Purpose: To build an experimental platform for testing the frequency response characteristics, vibration output response, directional characteristics, distance attenuation characteristics, and damage detection of a single circular flexible IDT.
Testing Equipment: ATA-2082 high-voltage amplifier, oscilloscope, signal generator, and an aluminum plate with a single circular flexible IDT for damage detection.
Figure 1: Experimental Platform for Damage Detection of a Single Circular Flexible IDT Array
Experiment Process:
The experimental platform for damage detection of a single circular flexible IDT is shown in Figure 1, where Figure 1(a) is the layout of the experimental setup and Figure 1(b) is the wiring diagram of the experimental instruments. A strong magnet with a radius of 5mm is attached to both sides of the aluminum plate as a damage point, located at coordinates (-141.4mm, 141.4mm), 200mm away from the single circular flexible IDT. During the experiment, a signal generator outputs a five-peak narrowband modulated sine signal with a frequency of 200kHz and an amplitude of 5V as the excitation signal, as shown in Figure 2(a). This signal is amplified 20 times by the voltage amplifier and then output through the PZT. The single circular flexible IDT receives the signal, which is displayed and exported for analysis using the oscilloscope.
Figure 2(b) and (c) show the original waveform diagrams received by the single circular flexible IDT when the aluminum plate is undamaged and damaged, respectively. By subtracting the waveform signal received by the single circular flexible IDT when the aluminum plate is damaged from the waveform signal when it is undamaged, the waveform diagram of the damage reflection wave, as shown in Figure 2(d), can be obtained.

Experimental Results:
Through the preliminary study of damage detection using a single circular flexible IDT, it was found that the S0 and A0 modes of the damage reflection wave could be clearly observed. Using a one-dimensional localization method, the position of the damage was determined, verifying that the single circular flexible IDT array has good damage detection performance and can be applied to structural health monitoring.
Voltage Amplifier Recommendation: ATA-2082
Figure: Specification Parameters of the ATA-2082 High-Voltage Amplifier
The ATA-2082 is an ideal dual-channel high-voltage amplifier for amplifying AC and DC signals. It can output a maximum of 800Vp-p (±400Vp) high voltage to drive high-voltage loads. The voltage gain is digitally adjustable, and frequently used settings can be saved with a single button press, providing convenient and simple operational choices. It can be used in conjunction with mainstream signal generators to amplify signals.
